Apple’s first foldable phone is finally in stores. The iPhone Duo went on sale on Friday, October 23, 2026, in more than 70 countries, starting at $1,999 for 256GB and topping out at $3,199 for 2TB. Reviewers broadly agree it’s the most polished folding phone Apple could have made, with a crease you’ll rarely notice, but it’s expensive, it can run warm, and in-store stock is limited. Here’s what you need to know before you buy one, or decide to wait.

iPhone Duo price and storage options

According to Apple’s announcement and its online store, U.S. pricing for the unlocked model breaks down like this:

  • 256GB: $1,999
  • 512GB: $2,199
  • 1TB: $2,599
  • 2TB: $3,199

Apple also lists a monthly option of $83.29 for 24 months on the base model. In the U.S., its Apple Upgrade leasing program, run through Klarna, offers 12- and 24-month leases that Apple says start at $57.99 a month for 24 months for eligible customers. Trade-in credit through Apple Trade In applies too, subject to its terms.

The phone comes in two colors, Star White and Night Sky, and Apple sells its own iPhone Duo Case for $79 and an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand for $129.

When and where you can buy it

Pre-orders opened on October 16, and the phone became available on October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, India, Japan, China and Germany. Apple says it will reach 28 more countries and regions on October 30.

You can buy it on apple.com, in the Apple Store app, at Apple Stores and through select carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. One caveat: demand is high. TechRepublic reported that online delivery estimates stretched into January 2027 shortly after pre-orders opened, though some buyers later got earlier dates. The Verge noted that Apple Stores have only a “limited” number of units on launch day, so check pickup availability in the Apple Store app before you make the trip.

Key specs at a glance

Here are the headline numbers from Apple’s official spec sheet:

  • Inner display: 7.6-inch foldable OLED with a nano-texture (matte) finish, 1878 x 2670 pixels
  • Outer display: 5.4-inch OLED, 1398 x 2034 pixels
  • Both screens: ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On, Dynamic Island, Apple Pencil (USB-C) support
  • Chip: A20 Pro with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU
  • Cameras: 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, with a 2x optical-quality telephoto option
  • Thickness: 5.2 mm open, 11.3 mm closed
  • Weight: 254 grams (8.96 ounces)
  • Build: grade 5 titanium frame, IP68 water and dust resistance
  • Software: ships with iOS 27.1

Apple says the outer screen gives you about 90 percent of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro, and that both displays share the same aspect ratio, so apps scale cleanly when you open and close the phone.

What reviewers say about the iPhone Duo

The crease: mostly hidden, but you can feel it

The biggest worry with any foldable is the crease down the middle of the screen. Apple’s answer is the matte nano-texture coating on the inner display. 9to5Mac’s review says the crease isn’t visible head-on in most lighting, and only really showed up in bright light while viewing dark screens. You can still feel it when scrolling. The Verge reached a similar conclusion: you mostly can’t see it, you can definitely feel it, and it shows up more on camera than to the eye.

Battery life: a full day for most people

The Duo splits its battery into two cells, one in each half. Apple rates it for up to 24 hours of typical mixed use, up to 44 hours of video on the outer screen and up to 31 hours on the inner screen. Real-world results vary:

  • TechRadar got around 14 hours in its own use and 13 hours in its lab tests, slightly behind the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 14.33 hours in the same tests. It charged to 60 percent in 30 minutes with a 45W charger.
  • HardwareZone cites EU filings putting total capacity at 4,883mAh and measured nearly 13 hours of video looping on the outer screen and just over 11 hours on the inner one.
  • The Verge found that heavy inner-screen use drains it faster, and one reviewer needed a top-up during a busy workday.

Heat and performance

The A20 Pro is fast, but The Verge reported the phone “definitely gets warm, and sometimes hot,” especially in some third-party video apps and Google’s apps. That’s worth knowing if you plan to stream or game for long stretches on the big screen.

Design

Reviewers praise the build. TechRadar called the design “Apple at its best” and described the Duo as a hybrid somewhere between a small phone and an iPad mini, rather than just an iPhone folded in half.

Should you buy the iPhone Duo or wait?

It depends on how you use your phone:

  • Buy it if you read, watch video or multitask a lot on your phone, want one device that can stand in for a small tablet, and the price fits your budget.
  • Wait if you’re happy with a regular iPhone, mostly use your phone one-handed, or want to see how the hinge and screen hold up after months of real use. First-generation hardware also tends to get cheaper and better in later versions.
  • Watch Apple’s next event first if you’re also eyeing a new iPad or Mac. Apple is widely expected to show more hardware soon, which we cover in our guide to Apple’s Oct. 28 “Pro and Tell” event.

Whatever you decide, budget for a case. A folding screen and a polished titanium frame are not things you want to drop, and Apple’s own options start at $79. If you’re upgrading your audio at the same time, our breakdown of what Bose buying Skullcandy means for headphone buyers is worth a read.
