It’s the first time Wyle has held the title, which People has handed out every year since it started with Mel Gibson in 1985, according to Variety. That makes 2026 the title’s 41st year.

Wyle takes over from Wicked star Jonathan Bailey, the 2025 pick and the first openly gay man to receive the title.

Wyle didn’t see it coming. “I thought that sounded like a prank — just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me,” he told People, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. He joked that he hoped it would be “just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out,” then admitted he expects “a lot of ribbing from friends and family.”

He also said his wife, Sara, is the reason he said yes. “She thinks I’m a good guy and that the kind of person that I am and the kind of father I am, the kind of husband I am, is worth promoting,” he said, according to UPI. “She was very pleased that this reflects well on her taste.”

Wyle married actress Sara Wells in June 2014, and their daughter, Frances Harper Wyle, was born in June 2015, according to ABC News. He also has two children, Owen and Auden, with his ex-wife Tracy Warbin. When People asked what Sara thought of the news, he said she’s “amused by it all.”

Off camera, he launched the Noah Wyle Foundation in October 2022. Its main focus is supporting children with mental illness and people facing food insecurity.

When Does The Pitt Season 3 Come Out?

HBO Max has confirmed that The Pitt season 3 premieres in January 2027, but it hasn’t announced an exact date, according to HBO Max’s press site and People. The first two seasons debuted in January 2025 and January 2026, and Polygon expects a premiere on or around Jan. 7, 2027, if HBO follows the same pattern. Treat that as an estimate until HBO confirms it.

The new season breaks the show’s real-time habit. Wyle told Deadline in July that season 3 depicts Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, even though it airs in January, EW reported.
